New Gorillaz Album 2025 - Out Now

Damon Albarn has unveiled the long-awaited next chapter in the Gorillaz discography. Titled The Mountain, the band’s first album since 2023’s Cracker Island is slated for release on March 20 via their freshly launched label, Kong. The album spans 15 tracks and kicks off with a striking new single, “Happy Dictator”, featuring none other than Sparks.

The record’s production credits include Gorillaz themselves, alongside James Ford, Samuel Egglenton, and Remi Kabaka Jr., with special input from Argentine producer Bizarrap. Recording sessions took place at Albarn’s own Studio 13 in London, his studio in Devon, and spanned across India (Mumbai, New Delhi, Rajasthan, Varanasi), Turkmenistan (Ashgabat), Syria (Damascus), and cities across the United States including Los Angeles, Miami, and New York.

The Mountain brings Gorillaz’s signature global sound into even sharper focus, with guest appearances that span five languages: Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish, and Yoruba. Among the album’s diverse collaborators are Idles, Kara Jackson, Yasiin Bey, Johnny Marr, Black Thought, Anoushka Shankar, and Omar Souleyman. There are also pow
erful posthumous contributions from Bobby Womack, Dave “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, Dennis Hopper, Mark E. Smith, Proof, and Tony Allen, creating a rich sonic archive that blurs past and present.

New Gorillaz, New Style ? Jamie Hewlett previews New Gorillaz Artwork

Just recently, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett announced that their highly successful virtual band Gorillaz will be releasing a new album in 2016. Much to the delight of their fans, the duo announced that they have been actively working on recording a new Gorillaz album which is scheduled for release next year, although no teasers or musical tracks have yet to be released.

The band has always emphasised the visual and aesthetically side of their music, preferring to animate rather than use traditional people to feature in their live shows as well as music videos.

But what will the new Gorillaz look like? Jamie Hewlett, cartoonist and co-creator of the band Gorillaz has been posting teasers of the 'new' Gorillaz up on his Instagram throughout the past few weeks.

Despite these previews, the question of what the new Gorillaz will look, feel and sound like still remains unclear. Until further news, it still remains a mystery to the fans.

Gorillaz confirmed to make a new album in 2016

We've got great news for all Gorillaz fans. Damon Albarn has just revealed in a recent interview with The Sydney Morning Herald that his animated band Gorillaz will make a new album i 2016.

In the interview, he mentioned that Gorillaz is already in the process of "reactivating" for a potential 2016 album. This means that fans will be hearing brand new Gorillaz songs as early as next year, and possibly enjoy a full Gorillaz world tour in 2016 after their album release.

If Gorillaz produces a new LP, it would be the band’s fifth album, and first since 2011’s ipad-recorded The Fall.

But what about his other band Blur? Of this, Damon Albarn said: “I would imagine there’s some kind of future,” he said in the interview, “but at the moment there’s no time for the future – only the present. Who knows? I’m reluctant to say anything, because if I do, it just gets taken out of context and then I’m accused of being a wind-up.”

Damon Albarn - There Could Be a new Gorillaz album

Damon Albarn has hinted at a future new Gorillaz album, and this time it's without Jamie Hewlett.

In an interview with Shortlist Magazine, Damon Albarn said nothing will change if Gorillaz went ahead and made a new album without Hewlett's illustrations. The only aspect that would be missing is bass player Murdoc's cartoon drawing.

He said: "It was very much Jamie [Hewlett] did the visuals and I did the music. The music won’t change, so there could be another Gorillaz record tomorrow. It wouldn’t necessarily have Murdoc - the cartoon aspect to it - but musically, no, nothing’s changed whatsoever."

The Blur frontman also denied rumours that Gorillaz were "over" for good. Damon said that Gorillaz would undoubtedly continue on if Jamie Hewlett and himself reconciled their differences that contributed to their fallout this year. But wait - Damon also mentions how Gorillaz are still going strong in another much earlier interview.

"Jamie wants to do other things and I understand," he said. "But you never know, in a few years he might have a burning desire to draw those pictures again, and as soon as he does that, as far as I’m concerned, there could be another Gorillaz album."

It seems very likely fans of Albarn and Gorillaz will be getting a new album. It is merely a matter of when the musical pair will agree to work together again. Looks like Gorillaz was, and is not over.

What will be the New Gorillaz sound ?
